The purpose of all Theatre of Peace programmes is to introduce the vocabulary of Restorative Peace and the practical strategies and skills to support: peacekeeping, peacemaking, peacebuilding and sustaining the peace for ourselves, [inner peace], others [outerpeace], and the world [ecological and global peace].
Each actor is guided through the their personal archetypes based on the Restorative Justice Window.
This process helps them recognise their individual strengths and areas for growth, deepening both self-awareness and collaboration throughout rehearsal and performance.
During rehearsal, actors engage in conversation, storytelling, and shared meals, exploring how they can contribute constructively to the inevitable conflicts of the creative process.
This collaborative approach grows trust, deepens understanding, and strengthens their creative contributions to the ensemble.
Building on the self-awareness developed through their understanding of their own archetypes the actors apply this knowledge as part of the development of their characters.
By exploring archetypes, commonalities, and points of opposition, they gain deeper insight into relationships, motivations, and the dynamics that drive the story.
Five simple stages inform the Theatre of Peace process:
Be Present → Be Kind → Be the Change → Believe the Evidence → Be Consistent
Together, they provide a framework for actors - and audiences - to engage fully, act ethically, and transform conflict into constructive dialogue both on and off stage.
