Theatre itself is not revolutionary;
it is a rehearsal for the revolution.
Augusto Boal
On 18 February 1965, James Baldwin spoke at the Cambridge Union in a debate on race, violence and oppression.
To commemorate the 60th anniversary of this event, Roy Leighton and Craig Green wrote and produced a 'Theatre of Peace' Production for schools, colleges and communities.
To keep Baldwin's message alive, we launched the 10000 Voices Campaign. We need your voice.
Here is a short trailer of the film of the play 'The Missing Peace'
The first voice for our campaign was Lord Simon Woolley. Lord Woolley is the only black principal of a college in Cambridge (Homerton College).
Follow the example of Lord Woolley and record yourself reading Baldwin's words.

HERE'S YOUR SCRIPT:
"It's a terrible thing for an entire people to surrender to the notion that one-ninth of its population is beneath them. And until that moment, until the moment comes, when we, the Americans, we the American people, are able to accept the fact that I have to accept, for example, that my ancestors are both white and black, that on that continent we are trying to forge a new identity for which we need each other, and that I am not a ward of America, I am not an object of missionary charity, I am one of the people who built the country. Until this moment, there is scarcely any hope for the American dream because the people who are denied participation in it, by their very presence, will wreck it. And if that happens, it’s a very grave moment for the West."
In a world increasingly divided, our 'Theatre of Peace' workshops introduce practical strategies for addressing conflict, learning and change.
We use the power of drama, oracy, and positive philosophy to transform negative peace into constructive conflict in the workplace, communities and schools.
